Wilf Rosenberg is a jewish South African who became a sporting legend in rugby union and rugby league.
His nickname was the “Flying Dentist” due to his occupation
Rosenberg developed his rugby skills in Australia before making his mark for South Africa prior to signing with Leeds rugby league in England in 1960
He followed Tom Van Vollenhoven and Jan Prinsloo to rugby league but was not St Helens bound where the duo impressed
Leeds approached his father ,Rabbi Philip Rosenberg whilst he was in London and Wilf signed in 1960 for £6000
During a three year stay at Leeds, he scored 48 tries in the 60/61 season, a record that still stands today
That season culminated in Leeds winning their first ever Championship
After his time with Leeds he signed with Hull rugby league where he ended his playing days before returning to South Africa
Wilf Rosenberg was a winger with electrifying pace and could read the opposition defence like no other
He has also been inducted into the Jewish sports hall of fame
