An abundantly skilful fullback with blistering pace and solid defence, Prinsloo was earmarked for selection in the 1963 rugby league Springbok team to tour Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately injuries dashed his hopes of representing South Africa. Several months after the Springboks return, he was awarded a team blazer by the team’s management for his contribution in the lead up to the tour.

Upon the teams return, the players found themselves banned for life from ever playing rugby union or rugby league on any South African rugby fields. Prinsloo took it upon himself to represent the players and rugby league. He had numerous consultations with the then president of the South African Rugby Union, Dr Danie Craven. As history tells, his numerous efforts fell on deaf ears. He continued with his efforts to keep rugby league alive by promoting the sport and wearing his Springboks league blazer to international and provincial union matches in South Africa.

Prinsloo, who played rugby league for the Pretoria rugby league club in the sixties, turned down the offers to play professionally in England and instead continued to uphold the game he loved in South Africa. Unlike his professional team mates of the sixties, he has stuck by the game since 1962.He held the position of Vice president of the SARL for many years and is currently advisor to SARL president, Kobus Botha. The board has  appointed Prinsloo to facilitate rugby league in government communications and with special projects.
His near lifetime contribution to rugby league in his homeland is second to none.

Prinsloo represented the Pretoria rugby league club in every match they played and scored more than 40 tries as a wing and fullback during the short span of rugby league in South Africa in the 1960s.
