POLAND AND GERMANY MEN NAME SQUADS FOR SENIOR INTERNATIONAL

Poland and Germany will compete for the second ‘Augustus the Strong’ trophy in Nowe Skalmierzyce tomorrow (Saturday) in a senior men’s international for world ranking points (kick off 2pm local time). The sides met last year in Berlin where Germany were 54-10 winners to take the silverware named after the former King of Poland and Elector of Saxony who was famed for his ability bend horseshoes with his hands.

Poland, who have just completed their domestic season, have seven players in line to make their debut, head coach Dean Reacher said: “We look forward to welcoming Germany, we know they will be determined to hold onto the Augustus cup. We are looking forward to another fixture which provides the Polish players with an opportunity to put into practice everything we covered in the recent training camp.”

Poland are next scheduled to travel to Czechia on 19 October.

Germany will potentially hand out eight debuts as they field a squad entirely based on their domestic competition for what will be their 40th senior international.

NRLD president, Bob Doughton, commented: “We fully expect the Polish team to be stronger this time around and we know that we are in for a hard match. This will be our first-ever game in Poland and is the 40th international which Rugby League Deutschland has played and we’re very excited to celebrate both milestones.“
