RUGBY LEAGUE FEDERATION GHANA HOSTS COACHING CLINIC IN ASHANTI REGION

A total of 30 coaches from various institutions participated in a three-day coaching clinic in Afigya Kwabre South District, Ashanti Region, Ghana, where they gained valuable insights into the fundamentals of rugby league, coaching strategies, and player development techniques, with the aim of promoting the sport across the region.

The clinic, which featured both practical and theoretical training sessions, began with an interactive workshop for students at Pentecost Senior High School. They received hands-on experience in rugby league, setting the stage for the following two days of intensive classroom and field training.

Jafaru Awudu Mustapha, general manager of RLFG, who ran the course with Riddick Alibah, William Pearcy Biney, and Julius Amevor, said: “The RLFG, in partnership with Salford Red Devils, is set to develop rugby league in all corners of the country. The opportunity given to us by the regional managers, Mr. Julius Amevor and Mr. George Asanko, aligned with this goal. With this coaching course completed, I believe the region now has more than enough coaches equipped to introduce the game.”

Several prominent local officials supported the initiative including Simon Koku Gluikpor, technical director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) in Ashanti Region; Adu Poku Christian, district chief executive of Afigya Kwabre South District; and David Akomeah Asokwah, district director of education.

The Headmasters of Aduman Senior High School and Pentecost Senior High School, Victor Asare Marfo and Albert Mensah, also played pivotal roles in supporting the event.

The Ashanti clinic is part of a broader effort to strengthen the sport’s presence across the country. The RLFG plans to host similar events in other regions throughout Ghana.
