Following major storms that hit the Alpine regions of Europe on Friday which have disrupted the arrival of some teams and officials, the start of the European U19s Championship in Belgrade, Serbia has been slightly put back.
Members of the USA delegation have been displaced to Zurich and will not arrive in Belgrade until tomorrow (Sunday), two days later than scheduled. Additionally, members of the match officials’ squad, delayed in Amsterdam, are also experiencing loss of baggage.
As a result, European Rugby League has taken the decision to postpone the quarter final between Scotland and USA to Monday 15 July, kick off 10.30am (local time).
This decision has been made with the full support of both Scotland and USA’s management who have all considered player welfare and competition integrity in reaching the decision.
ERL general manager, David Butler, commented: “I’m very grateful to Scotland and USA’s management for their flexibility in accommodating the changes to the schedule to ensure their game goes ahead with full squads available to both.
“I would also like to add my thanks to the Serbia Rugby League Federation who have quickly acted to make the changes needed. The ERL team have worked hard to support both the USA delegates already in Serbia and those in Switzerland and look forward to reuniting them on Sunday.”
The quarter final schedule is now amended to the following:
Sunday 14 July
4pm – Serbia U19s v England U21s (Warm Up Game)
6pm – Serbia v Ukraine
Monday 15 July
10.30am – Scotland v USA
All games will be broadcast on the European Rugby League Facebook page Facebook.com/EuroRugbyLeague
